Tower of Fournoi
The Tower of Fournoi
The Municipal District of Fournoi also includes the seaside holiday settlement of Paralia Fournoi, commonly known as Lazes. According to the 2001 national census, the settlement had a population of nine residents and is situated approximately two kilometres from the village of Fournoi.
Adjacent to Lazes lies the beach of Lampagianna, while the Chapel of Saint John (Agios Ioannis) is located between the two sites. The remains of an ancient tower are also preserved at Lazes, constituting an important archaeological landmark of the area.
It is widely believed that the ancient city of Masita may have been located at this site. The archaeological remains, together with the strategic coastal position of the settlement, support the historical significance of the area and its possible association with the ancient settlement.
