The Sacred Church of Agios Nikolaos in Pyrgella

The church of Agios Nikolaos is in the village of Pyrgella, to the east of the city of Argos. The church belongs to the cross-shaped type (variation A3). To the east, it has a three-sided apse, which is pierced by small window slits. The external walls of the church are plastered, but it is clear that second hand ancient building material has been used in the construction. The church is one of a group of churches that were built in Argolis at the end of the 17th century or the beginning of the 18th, during the time of the second Venetian occupation.
