The Sacred Church of Agios Ioannis at Lefkakia
The church of Agios Ioannis Prodromos is located a short distance outside Nafplio, on the low hill opposite the village of Lefkakia. It is built on the ruins of an ancient building. It is a small vaulted chapel with a semi-circular apse to the east. Partially surviving in the interior are murals on the altar (Virgin Mary Platytera, the Heirarchs), on the side walls (Agios Georgios and Agios Dimitrios) and on the apse (scenes from the Dodekaorton [the 12 feasts of the year]), which could belong to the 18th century. The chapel, with its small dimensions, low doorways and arched icon case above the entrance, could belong to the Ottoman period.
