The ancient quarry, Iria

To the east of the church of Agios Nikolaos, to the left of the road that climbs from the Iria plateau towards Epidaurus, the remains of an ancient quarry have survived. The marks left by the tools of the ancient quarrymen can still be seen in the hard, grey limestone, which seems to have been raw material for the construction of architectural elements from at least the Roman period. Researchers in the past reported that there were two unfinished columns on the slopes of the hill to the east, near to a field. The locals call the location Kranidostrata, unique now on the old road to south Argolis.
